Alfredo Maestro burst into the wine world in 1998 with a vision to make wines that adhere to a very specific mantra: “Wine made with only grapes, well-kept vineyards, and healthy land.” His vision was unique and off-center, a complete opposite of the mass-marketed, homogenous wine culture of overripe, overly-oaked wines that dominated the landscape of Spanish wines during most 1990's and early 2000's.

After seeking out abandoned vineyards around Ribera del Duero and nearby Madrid; Alfredo Maestro set out to rehabilitate the vineyards, farm organically and work with specific varietals such Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera and Albillo. Maestro's mantra is clearly written all over his wines, as he precisely defines his wines as "easy wines with character imprinted with the earth and the vintage, authentic stories transmitted differently each year and not modified by the hand of the man in the cellar."

El Rey Del Glam 2014 is a purely addictive expression of Alfredo's ingenuity and vision; made with 100% Garnacha from 30 year-old vines from Navalcarnero, a site just south of the city of Madrid. This Carbonic macerated Garnacha is a pure joy to drink. Deep hues of violet jump from the glass; a bouquet of sour cherries, kirsch and raspberry is seductively intoxicating. The finish is joyful as a long summer night. I strongly advise you to grab a bottle and take it with you to your next BBQ or Picnic.
