Hi everyone,

So, this weekend I tasted some lovely Cotes Du Rhone inspired by Mr. Eric Asimov's article in the NY times on Wednesday.

My wife made the meal they suggested to go with that (a very nice olive gnocchi from scratch with a seasonal tomato sauce). The wine i picked up is the Domaine Gres St. Vincent 'Signargues' Cotes du Rhone Villages 2006.

The food was great and full of seasonal flavors of olives and tomatoes and garlic with some great basil notes. The wine matched it will with dark berries and olives with a slight herbal quality.

I tasted the wine at a party the night before, with no decanting, and thought it tasted a bit young, so for this meal I decanted the wine for about an hour; it showed much better. This is a wine that will show great in a year or two, or with a bit of decanting. All in all a nice pairing in the pairing school of like with like!

We have the wine in the store, and it will be here online later this week.

Thanks,

Ben
