Today I thought I'd mention a experience I had this past Saturday night.

As some of you might know- in my spare time (not much these days!) I am a musician who plays guitar. This weekend i was offered a chance to play with the Hot Club Philly. The band is great, and they are good friends and nice guys.

The part that will interest most of you will be the fact that I went to this amazing restaurant with great locally sourced and mostly organic food and was served some fantastic plates. The name of the place is McLoone's Supper Club. It is located in the very picturesque small beach front area in Asbury Park, NJ. An amazing room to perform, with great food, and a nice wine list with pretty reasonable prices, though very focused on new world wines.

I enjoyed a glass, as an aperitif, of the lovely Fume Blanc from Ferrari Carano. This wine was aromatic, with grassy and woodsy notes and a nice grape flavor. Nice and clean with loads of fruit. The second glass I had (with my meal) went very well with the food. I ate a battered and fried dish of polenta (amazing!) and a great prepared salad of yellow heirloom tomato. The wine was the King Estate Pinot Noir from Oregon. This wine was mildly new world in style, with some oak and vanilla flavors, but also clean pinot fruit, some earthy notes and a great elegant mouth feel.

Very nice experience on the whole, and a nice train ride on NJTransit there (though next time I'll try not to have to go back quite so late!).

Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Ben,
Glad you enjoyed our Fume Blanc! Hope that if you're ever in wine country, you will visit us here at Ferrari-Carano. Give a call first and we can arrange a tour along with your tasting. Thanks again for the nice comment about our wine, which is also one of my favorites!
